Remember how I said I forget to get pics of the Chevette a few days ago? Coincidentally, I happened to run into it again yesterday. Luck, I guess.
Here’s some pics. I’m shocked that there’s one still running:
Plate and inspection details have been cropped out for privacy.

Man, that brings me back, and not in an entirely good way.

Ooh, I can feel the slow from here!
Is that thing straddling the lines or is it just a tiny car in a huge space?

I knew a guy who had a Scooter in that same color in college. 4 speed. It would do 0-60. With the wind at its back.

I see an early 4 door scootin’ around my town from time to time. Always makes me smile. I had one once. It was, despite popular opinion, a good cheap car. Emphasis on cheap.

Would beat my parents’ Shitvette.

Your parents had one? Ugh - my condolences.
When I was a kid, the neighbors across the street were a family of 4 fairly large people - Dad was ~ 6'2" probably 250, mom was at least 5'10" 200, and the son and daughter were similar sized. They usually had only 1 car, and it was always small cars - for a while, they had a Chevette. That was their family car. That could NOT have been comfortable for anyone.

Straddling the line. Was parked right on the edge of the crosswalk.

This makes me happy.

They were roomy enough for a shit box. Ours even had A/C, but every time I turned it on, my speed would drop 15 mph. When the AM radio died, I convinced Mom to get a cheap tape deck, and then it was road trip time!
I remember driving home one night from a girl’s house. My buddy and I were so drunk, the two lane roads looked like four at times. And the alternator was out; so, we were on battery power only, and shut off the headlights to have enough power for the engine to make it home (made sense at the time). I really don’t know how I survived high school doing shit like that.

Yeah, I remember doing a lot of really stupid shit back then. Drinking and driving was way too common, riding down country roads on the hoods of cars, etc. And for a good chunk of my senior year, my car didn’t even HAVE seat belts.
Makes you shudder thinking about your kids growing up, don’t it???

I already know. I just need proof.

Yeah that’s the right answer, so you can nip it in the bud before it gets too crazy.

If they can’t get a Chevette between the lines, I’d watch out for that driver...
